new to QTR

2009-12-10 by cpost3146

just downloaded QTR for a trial and am trying to learn. I am printing on an Epson 3800. I have a question regarding image sizing that probably has a simple answer.
When i select my photo (8.5x11 as sized in PhotoShop)and select letter size paper in QTR, the image is reduced in size, i.e. I get a .7 in. border on top and bottom and a .1 in border on the sides. seems like QTR is resizing my photo. I selected centered and size to fit and every combination of those two options and it doesn't help.
I would appreciate anyb help. Thanks
Chuck

If your image (canvas)size is 8.5 x 11 then you can't print it actual size on 8.5 x 11 paper. You need margins all round for the 3800, which QTR is giving you.

I understand. My issue is that the borders are not equal, i.e., greater on
the top and bottom than on the sides. When I print with the Epson drivers, I
get a nice .25 in border around the image.

I have had a similar issue, but Epson tech helped me solve it. In my case, I am using 4880...and there is a default .56 in setting on one edge. Once I made a custom size setting with .56 all the way around...every print is perfectly centered.

So the workaround is making a custom size setting for each of your paper sizes.

If you scale your original image to fit on the page, the long side (11 inches) will reduce by more, in absolute terms, than the short side. This means that you will have bigger borders top and bottom than at the sides. If you want equal 0.25in borders then your aspect ratio has to change slightly - your image has to be distorted.

Try scaling in Photoshop to get what you want - you will find that if you "Constrain Proportions" you will get 0.25 borders at the sides and 0.32 borders top and bottom. Not sure where the 0.7in comes from - QTR doesn't do that for me.
