QTR curves using GLOP?

QTR curves using GLOP?

2009-12-06 by Andre

This is wired...I use a 1400 with UT14 MIS inks. Print with QTR and curves for the EEM paper (for matte papers) and a curve downloaded from the files section of this group (if I remember right) for the Ilford Baryta paper. The 6th cartrdige contains GLOP and it`s supposed to be used only for glossy papers. But it`s level goes down, either if I print on matte or glossy paper.
Why? Any ideas? Is it really applying the GLOP or just throwing it awai in the waste pad?
best,
Andr

If you are using the curves that I uploaded, there shouldn't be any glop on your prints. It probably is going to the waste pad. I see that as well, but I also print a "purge" page a couple of times a week.

Hi David...
Yes, it's your curves (thanks a lot for posting them!).
Odd...shouldn`t the glop just stay there? Since the driver doesn`t order it to go anywhere?
Probably blame it on Epson engineers...

Andre,
I don't really know, but I have assumed that the glop has just been consumed during cleaning cycles, including those that the printer runs through when it starts up or shuts down. As I said, I also print a purge page twice a week, which prints from all of the cartridges.

But, I have to admit that the glop gets consumed almost as fast as the inks, which seems odd. It makes me wonder how much of the ink we buy ever winds up on prints! The other possibility is that the curves and QTR aren't doing what I understood them to do.

Creepy, isn't it!?

I'd like to hear something from Roy about it...

There's not much I can add. If you have curves that don't use an ink
(and it appears
that David's don't use GLOP) then QTR won't be using any of that ink.
It must be
cleaning cycles that are using up the ink. You could just fill the
cart with cheap cleaner
if you are never going to use GLOP.
