QTR-Quadtone RIP

Has anybody else had this issue? --  when trying to print, the Photoshop "Printer Profile" dropdown menu does not contain "QTR Gray Photo Paper" or "QTR Gray Matt Paper" -- which according to the documentation for QTR 2.6.2. are required to be used for printing.

Following instructions in the documentation, I copied "Gray_Matte_Paper.icc" and "Gray_Photo_Paper.icc" from /Library/Printers/QTR/icc, to /Library/ColorSync/Profiles.  The other QTR icc files in or linked to /Library/ColorSync/Profiles do appear in the "Printer Profiles" menu, but "QTR Gray Photo Paper" and "QTR Gray Matt Paper" do not.

I am running CS4 on OS-X 10.6 and QTR 2.6.2 with Snow Leopard Patch installed, to Epson R2880.

Snow Leopard doesn't want to recognize the QTR gray ICC profiles.   It
looks like we will need
to use the RGB versions instead.   The RGB versions work identically
so there's no need to
do anything differently -- the type of the file itself does not
matter.  Just substitute the rgb versions.

I'm working with X-Rite on what may be a related problem. I've used ColorMunki to create (almost a year ago) several ABW profiles, using the QTR tools. During that year, they worked just fine. I've just noticed (since the update to 10.6.2) that they no longer show up in the CS4 ICC list at all. They are simply not recognized.

(Further, the ColorMunki-created profiles are suddenly printing gray in that portion surrounding the photo which should be unprinted. X-Rite is familiar with the problem, and, as I said, we're working on it.)

I strongly suspect that 10.6.2 has made some change to how color profiles are treated which may be causing both these symptoms (since, as noted, CS4 worked just fine with all of these profiles up until a short time ago.)

I'll report back whatever I find out, although as of today, X-Rite has closed for the holidays.

But in a nut-shell, CS4 and 10.6.2 have issues with version 4 ICC profiles.

I can verify that remaking the ABW profiles, as described on the Northlight site (http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/bw_printing/bw_print_colormunki.html) works if you use the QTR-Create-ICC-RGB script instead of the QTR-Create-ICC script.
