Epson 3890

Epson 3890

2010-07-13 by Hisun Wong

Roy, I bought Epson 3890 in Shanghai recently. I am sure this is the equivalent of Epson 3880. There is no 3880 in China, only 3890.

The profile installer does not recognize Epson 3890 at all. I have been using Quadtone with with Epson 2100, Epson 4000 for many years. The Epson 2100 and 4000 are still connected to my Mac Pro, running the latest Quadtone.

Hong Kong does not have 3880 and 3890 either, I think it is 3885 or a different number.

Regards
Hisun

The 3890 will have a different driver to the 3880. It's part of Epson's efforts to make it harder for third parties to manufacture blank cartridges with chips.

I had the same problem here in Australia with the 1410 v the 1400. Roy got me going with the following advice:

"As long as it really is compatible with a 1400 there's no trouble.
Look at the last 2 pages of Tutorial.pdf in the download. It talks about
Bonjour but the same idea works for different printers.

Just name the printer Quad1400 with whatever inkset extension you
want such as Quad1400-MIS ...
Select Print Using: QuadToneRIP 2.7 Epson 1400

Now you can use the Install1400 script."

If you do the same, you should be back on track. So in the printer set up in system preferences (if you are on a Mac) you would name your printer Quad3880, set the extension as Quad-3880 and select print using QuadTone RIP 2.7 Epson 3880.

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Epson 3890

Thank you for the instruction. But I still have problem.

I use System Preference to add printer naming it Quad3880 (also tried Quad3880-UC), using QuadtoneRIP 2.7 Epson 3880 driver. Where do I set the extension Quad-3880?

But the install program gave the same error. The printer is USB connected.

You should name the printer Quad3880 -- no spaces, no dashes.
Model should be: QuadtoneRIP 2.7 Epson 3880

Then run: /Applications/QuadToneRIP/Profiles/3880-UC/Install3880.command
