QTR-Quadtone RIP

I am using a MAC Book Pro OS 10.6.6 with an Epson 4880.  It all works fine, PS CS5,  when I try to use QuadToneRip 2.7. it is unable to connect. I know it's a broad question but something isn't working in the RIP. And it won't print calibration mode either. 
Looking in /library/printers/QTR/quadtone/Quad4880-K7 everything looks fine. It all the profiles show up in The RIP printing page but it fails to connect to printer.  How can I go about trouble shooting...back track to an earlier RIP?
I have reinstalled the ver.2.7 and no luck.

I know this is a very old question but since there was no answer and someone else might have this question...

I am new to all this too but it is my understanding that QTR will only speak to your printer through a USB cable, not firewire or ethernet. Check your connection.
