Problem with rear feed on Epson R1900 with Cone Studio Type 5 Paper and QTR

Problem with rear feed on Epson R1900 with Cone Studio Type 5 Paper and QTR

2011-04-05 by Christopher

I am having issues with the rear manual feed on my new Epson R1900. I
don't have the centering or feeding issues as other have experienced.
What is happening is part of the print is being damaged during printing.
It looks like part of the print head is scraping off part of the paper
surface. This is happening after the ink is laid and leaves closely
spaced white lines about 1/2" long that form three parallel streaks down
the length of the paper. I have selected 13x19 as the size, rear roll
(manual) as the source, and glossy for the type of paper. I would
just stick to the sheet feeder, but it is inconsistent and the cork
roller leaves a mark on my prints. Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks!

Chris,

I run a couple of 1900s and mainly use the rear manual feed and never seen
anything like this.
Can you post a large image of the damaged area.
Does this happen if you use the sheet feed?

Is the paper warped in some way so the head can strike it?

Mike,

Here is a close up of the damage. Jon confirmed that this is caused by
print head strike and wanted to know if there was a platen gap
adjustment on this printer. Most of my searching returns results for
the pro level printers, not the R1900.

So far no luck. Epson technical support walked me through setting the
Epson print driver to thick paper, but I'm not sure if that matters
using QTR to print. Here is a pic of a print in progress that shows
exactly where the damage is occurring during the printing process.
