Paper/Ink curve codes

Paper/Ink curve codes

2011-04-19 by Mel

Could anyone explain the paper/ink curve codes as set out below please.

I am using W7, 2100 and a choice of Epson PK and MK blacks.

My choices in the QTR interface are:-
                        UCmk-MEntradaNatural- .......
                        UC-EnhMatte-........... etc.
                        UC-PremierFineArt-......etc.
                           and various UCpk combinations
Questions

         What is MEntradaNatural ?
         Why no UCmk for EEnhMatte

The paper I have to hand is Epson Archival Matte, so which curve setup would be appropriate for this paper, or would I need to use a different paper for the 2100 using UCmk (Epson T0348, Matte Black)

MEntradanatural is a paper polpular in the US but not available, as far
as I know, in the UK

The UC-EnhMatte curves do use a black ink - although the quad file
doesn't specify which, I'd expect the curves to have been built with MK.
Try the Enhanced Matte curves for Epson Archival Matte (this may be the
same paper - its sold under another name in the US after complaints some
years ago about the 'Archival' part of the name).

Thanks Mike,

I just noticed on the box it says Archival Matte is for Epson Stylus Photo 2000P and Pro 5500, whereas Epson Enhanced Matte is made for UltraChrome inks(2200/2100), Epson Archival inks and DuraBright inks.

I'll give it a try with the Archival Matte paper.

I use archival matt on the epson 2100 with good results. I use as curve
1: UC-EEnhMatt-warm, as curve 2: UC-Eenhmatte-cool. Then I check the box
'Split Curve Blending' and I set all settings for curve 1 to 80% , for
curve 2 to 2%.. Finally I set the gamma to -10. Beautiful!

Thanks for that Sjef,

When you say "all settings" do you mean for Highlight, Midtone and Shadow ?

Since you check the Split Tone Curve box I take it that the 2% you mention should be 20% ?

The Epson EEM, EAM, are the same papers, it is now called Epson Ultra
Premium Presentation Paper Matte in the US to make it even more complicated.

https://shop.colourconfidence.com/section.php/10449/1/moab-paper
distributes Moab papers including the Entrada Rag Natural.

The paper coating of the Entrada is of a better quality than the Epson
paper mentioned. More in the Canson Rag Photographique, HM PhotoRag class.

That's correct. It should be 20%. And for highlight, midtone and Shadow.
