I've been thinking... QTR was designed for B/W printing... but if one
modifies the ink output for each colour, then why wouldn't it print in
colour? Is there something in the profile that forces it to print in gray
scale?

An incoming RGB file is converted to grayscale in QTR, I believe. So, all
you'd get is a rainbow of colors based on relative image density.

It does not have a color engine and it will not generate a black from
CMY in GCR or UCR mode.

Hi John,

Using fixed IP numbers tends to be problematic -- not sure
what your particular situation is doing. But anyway the best Ethernet
way on a Mac is usually the bonjour system. This automatically
sets up IP number for you.

You may need to enable this on the printer front panel. But then
you just use Print&Fax to add the Quad9890 printer and then
Run the install script to add the curves. See the Tutorial.pdf
last few pages for more info about this.

Thanks Roy,

I'll try to work with Bonjour set up if I can figure it out. I might have to abandon using this printer with QTR on a network and move a mac or a pc close to the printer with usb.

The other problem I'm having that is more of a concern is that even using usb connection to the 9890 custom paper sizes are not working. When I make a custom paper size like say 22x32 or whatever, the printer prints out an aprox 5x7 size print somewhere on the sheet. It's really odd. The driver preview looks perfect. I double checked and recreated another custom paper size and made sure all my settings were done correctly and three times it happened on a large sheet.

I'm not sure where I'll go from here. Using standard paper sizes causes no problems just custom ones.

The good news is that Cone's K7 curves for the 9880 are working perfectly when loaded into the 9890 curve package with no need for any editing. They look great.

The OS is Mac 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on both my Macs.

I haven't had a chance to work with the network again yet.
