hi list!
about the string sound on a 100m : i don't think this
synth is very good at it, maybe because you need a lot
of osc and polyphonie to achieve a good string sound.
the 100m with 184 kybd is very powerfull for power
chords or even soft abstract chords 'a la' Aphex twin.
and the arpegiator is kind of kool!
personaly, i'v never heard before a poly synt with so
much fatness AND precision

100m string sounds

2005-10-11 by synth_ollie

the main problem here I belive is that the 100m vcf´s lacks the
"lushiness" that synths that make good sting sounds has, like
the juno60 for example...

100m vs rsf kobol exp.

2005-10-11 by synth_ollie

I´ve had the kobol exp I & II + programmer also, but sold the rsf´s
and expanded my 100m... ;)

the Juno 60 has a good chorus!!

the Juno 60 is polyphonic so even with a monophonic line you have the tail decay of one note
still decaying when the next note plays.

Someone like Tomita might have alternated notes via overdubs to use a mono instrument.
Then again Tomita tried using 36 100m VCOs for some string sounds on "Grand Canyon
Suite", And then again Tomita just samples his moogs these days as far as I've heard and
didn't keep using the 18 modules for string sounds.

Re: [RolandSystem100m] Re: 100m string sounds

william....
try to get a hold of a roland dimension d and boss
rx 100 (or roland rv 100, or re 201...), I use
sometimes the roland paraphonic 505 string and synth
machine...It has the same built in three mode chorus
also found in the dimension d. Mode three allows for
glorious stereo phasing chorus. I run external synths
throught the ensemble effect like my 100m. Just two
osc monophonic it sound like an arp string
ensemble....I really love these old roland ensemble
effects myself...The roland rs 09 string and organ
synth has great chorus as well with an ext in. Also I
have been considering getting a boss ce 1
chorus/vibrato - legend has it it is the warmest
mushiest chorusever made.....I have tried running my
mxr digital delay - maybe one of the best delays ever
made - between the oscs and the filter so that the
effect is more implicit, more integrated with the
patch......But truly, the one order of business that i
can't do without is the spring reverb...It turns lead
into gold......

Re: 100m string sounds

2005-11-07 by synth_ollie

yes the chorus adds of course a great deal to a rich string sound,
but in this case I believe it also depends a lot on the filters,
since the 100m vcf´s in my opinion lacks the richness and warmth
that you need to make a good strings sound,
thats why I´m replacing 8 of my 15 100m filters with other filter
cirquits... ;)

also I do not understand why people are trying to make such boring
sounds as strings with a modular syntesizer.... ;)
