Well bucko, the trigger input *is* available on the new DTG's. Meaning
either you misread the catalog or DTG's going back many years have had this
feature.
Some of the popular DTG mod's include the bat switch connecting trigger and
gate so you could set up an oscillator or clock without a patchcord. Also
the Signal In jack, which is the most versatile mod, and the Bipolar Out mod.
IMO the DTG is a great module: extremely wide range, versatile, and easy on
panel space.
The SSG and the Random Source out are equivalent if you're feeding the
Stepped input with a random signal. There are differences between the
modules: that the S/H output of Random Source is a dedicated sample-and-hold,
you can't feed some other sample signal into it, and the SSG samples whatever
you send into the input, random or periodic. Also the Stepped Rate knob
affects the SSG stepped output... it sets the magnitude of the differences
between steps... so low rate setting means small restricted steps and a high
rate means large differences between steps.
