Re: [FS] ancient pre sts serge panels, cheap!:-)

2004-12-08 by Peter Grenader

Note:

the VCOs in this system are pre PCO and very sweet. The Envelope Generator
is not the Extended ADSR, but the long-extinct AR. Pre transient generator
and a really great module which will get down to about a 1ms cycle time and
as long as about 6 minutes. VC duration, self cycling, end pulse out and
his infamous 'window' port which basically gives a positive ramp out which
can be adjusted to last as long as the entire envelope. I wish Serge would
have kept making these. they're great. I'd like to have a few of these
myself.

The Sample & Hold I made for this has separate stepped and smooth outputs,
with pots to adjust the outputs level and the slew time of the smooth out.
It is congenitally placed right next to the noise generator I added, which
is based of Ray Wilson's design and white only. The Sample and Hold is my
own and based on the LF398. You can see a schematic here. although the one
in Ryan's system has a buffered lag not shown in this diagram:

http://www.buzzclick-music.com/sample_hold.jpg

In that this system had no LEDs, I elected not to install one in the S+H.

The power supply is a dual Power One (two supplies tied to create the +/-
12). They are housed in a stand alone aluminum chassis, fused with a power
switch and an external ground terminal. The supplies are good for about 1.2
ampsd and super clean and like all Power Ones, very well protected - they
will in most cases fold back before the fuse blows. They connect to the main
unit via a cinch-jones (sp?) connector. I used a 7806 for the six volt line
which is also housed in the chassis box

I added a power distribution panel in the back of the instruments chassis so
that each panel, which comes in it's own aluminum boat, can be disconnected
via it's own power connector) easily. The boats are 17 inches wide. Add
rack ears and you're set.

This unit was in excellent condition for its age internally. I've seen
Serge's which were much newer in a much poorer condition.

I'd be more than happy to repair the mixer problem in this panel for free.
I think the carton took a fall during shipping to Ryan, although it was
packed like King Tutt, with about 4 inches of large cell bubble warp and
about 5 inches of ghost turds all the way around.

All questionable pots have been replaced - electrolytics in critical areas
have been replaced as well. It's in good working order.

if I can be of further assistance to anyone here about this, let me know.

I'm going to give this a go on here first, and if it doesn't sell here then
to AH, and if it doesnt' sell there, then to the ebay:-) only selling this
cuz i just bought a big wiard modular to pay off:-)

these are pre-sts modules, and i believe there's a discountinued module or 2
in here, and there's 1 or 2 newer STS era modules in it. btw, the filters
sound amazing! It was just gone over, and fixed up by Peter Grenader, who
added 2 custom modules on it too. unfortunately 1 module got damaged in
shippin, i think it might simply be a broken jack, I'm going to look into
that more and hopefully it'll get fixed. Perhaps though before shipping it
to the winning customer, if i can't figure out what's wrong with it(the
module, actually half a module, it's one part of a dual mixer), i'll send to
that panel to Peter, to see what he can do about it?:-)

btw, this serge is a very ugly serge, the front panel is paper, and hand
written.

here's the listinng of modules in panel + price

Panel 1 vco, vco, vco, triple comparator, triple waveshaper, dual mixer(one
part of this mixer is the non working one) $1350 for this panel

panel 2:noise module(one of Peter's designs), S+H(another one of Peter's
designs), vcf(older style, very sweet and warm sounding), Resonant
Equalizer(A newer STS era module), Ring mod, VCA bank(3 vcas), Dual Mixer,
Triple Bi-Directional Router, Send+ recieve. $1500 for this panel.

Panel 3: mixer(sts module)x2 I'm not sure if both are STS, i know one is,
VCF(older and sweet sounding one as well, Dual Proccessor, Envelope
Generator, Dual Negative Slew, Dual Positive Slew $1450 for this panel.

I hope these prices seem reasonable to people here. They're about $1000 less
than STS era, and they are pretty damn similar internally, no ?:-)

btw, i will sell these all together for 4200 and will include a very capable
PSU from Peter Grenader, really nice one, and wooden cabinet, which has
power distributer.

any questions feel free to ask me:-)
