Re: Making a 16-step sequence with the 8x2 Sequencer

2008-03-14 by matthew carpenter

Thanks! It's funny... I tried that... and that's exactly how you do it with the SQP for making an 8 step sequence out of two rows of 4. (I use an ACPR rather than an XFAD). In that case, you actually need to use the / 8 output not the / 4.

If I use 1/8 the freq. of the main clock for the 8x2 Sequencer, it jumps to row B after only 4 steps. I either need another PDIV (to divide by 2, again) or some other way of effectively dividing the clock. I have tried my NCOM, DTGs, and VC Clock but it doesn't seem to work quite as perfectly as the PDIV.

I hadn't thought about using a S&H but I was playing with my, NCOM, Dual Schmitt Triggers and BLOG and, while not achieving the results I was aiming for, I came across numerous other cool tricks!

OK, this is a bit of a guess as I don't actually own one, but here is
a workaround I think should work:

- route A and B outs to the two ins of a VC X-fader
- apply a square wave at 1/8 the freq of the main clock to the VC In
of the X-fader.
- The out of the X-fader will alternate between 1 cycle of A and 1
cycle of B.

Now the question is how to get a square wave at 1/8 clock speed. Seems
you should be able to do this with a PDIV and an S&H unit.

Pure speculation until I get my system, of course ...
