Bananaizing Other Modulars?

Bananaizing Other Modulars?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else has added bannan jacks to an alternative synth system to work with the Sereg and what is involved? If you replace standard jacks with banana jacks what do you do with the ground wires that were attached? nay info greatly appreciated!

I have 5 MOTM VCO's, 4 MOTM VCLFO's, 2 MOTM Quad LFO's, 2 Blacet VCO's and a
number of DIY modules that are all banana'd. All have external power
supplies (Power One), and I do what STS does; the power supplies each have a
Ground Banana jack, and I strap them together. I have had no problems with
this arrangement.

Be advised that anything that has normaled connections it is not as straight
forward. One feature of the regular jacks is that they can function one way
if nothing is connected and then the signal can be broken when a cable is
present in the jack. You can't do this with banana jacks...

how difficult is it to replace 1/8" jacks with banana jacks? is drilling required to get the holes bigger to fit the banana jacks? I'm considering replacing all the jacks on a vostok with banana jacks for easier integreation. a patchbay seems way too annoying. But perhaps replacing all the other jacks might be even more annoying?:-)

interestingly, replacing Asys and Doepfer 1/8" jacks w/ bananas is a
straight-up deal: the holes, after yanking out the 1/8" jacks, are a
perfect fit for johnson type bananas. blacet, OTOH, requires you to
drill out the panel holes a bit. no problem. then you just run a
common ground to the serge ground, and voila.

VOILA I SAY!

Re: Bananaizing Other Modulars?

I’m fairly certain I had to drill out the 1/8” jack holes in the blacet modules (not so for the 1/4” jack holes in the MOTM’s).

Another consideration I didn’t mention earlier is that if the original jacks are board mounted, there will obviously be additional work involved.

Blake, how did you deal with those doepfer jacks?

Do you need a grommet or washer to fill in the 1/4 hole for MOTM?

Hi John,

I'm using SPC Technology type 844 and 845 connectors, and they fit quite
nicely in the MOTM's preexisting holes without further modification.
