Converting a Serge PS4 from 110 to 220 V?

Converting a Serge PS4 from 110 to 220 V?

2005-01-05 by benvehorn

Hi all,
I'm in the US and am selling a panel and PS4 to a guy in the UK.
Rather than using a transformer to step the voltage down, he is hoping that there is a
simple mod to convert the PS to 220V. I'm no techie, but I assume there would need to be
a 220V tap on the transformer somewhere. I already have the unit packed up so I can't
really open it to look.
Has anyone done this conversion before? Is it even possible? If it is, and someone can
provide instructions, I would be grateful. I figured I'd ask here before calling Rex.
Thanks.

Hi Ben,

I bought a used 110v PS2, it was possible to rework it to 220v with very simple soldering.
So I guess this is possible to resolder a PS4 also.

These were the instructions for reworking the PS2 as far as I remember it.

- hook up the fused (hot) wire of UK line cord to pin 4 of the Transformer in PS unit
- the neutral wire goes through the fuse on PS chassis which ends up on pin 1 of the
transformer
- put a jumper wire between pin 2 & 3.
- before plugging in, check outputs !!!!
- on red should be +12 volt
- on white shoulf be -12 volt
- on black should be GROUND

I am an amateur, so please make sure that this is checked and performed by a
knowledgeable electrician. And I strongly recommend to check back with Rex on this! I am
not resonsible for any damageĀ…

Good luck,
Jan-Hinnerk
