Fenix price

Fenix price

2006-03-20 by not known

alright,

the reason I haven't stated a firm price yet is
because I wanted to try to get an idea what others
were willing to pay... but since everyone seems to
keep asking for a price, I'll just say publicly what
I've told a few already:

I certainly didn't pay as little as $1500-1900 for it
- those prices must either be in the earlier part of
the last 5 years, or the exception rather than the
rule

the last one I saw sell went for $6000 USD. I'm
looking in a similar ballpark.

ok, everyone happy?

thanks,
kevin

That was probably an aberration. I haven't seen one go for more than $3500 - and I've been watching *intently* because I'm interested in one. $3000 is probably more realistic and mostly because of its rarity.

To each his own I guess...

I wasn't going to respond to this... but it has since
come to my attention from a reliable source on AH that
another Fenix traded hands recently for $8000 USD.

I also sat down briefly with the Serge price list and
put together a system with comparable features... if
buying new, to get something in the same ballpark
would cost about $7600, and that was without factoring
in power supplies etc. admittedly, a couple of the
Fenix features are unique to it and ditto for Serge,
so that's an approximation... but nonetheless...

to approximate the Fenix feature set in Modcan
A-series, if you want to go that route, would cost in
the neighborhood of $5600 new - just modules, again I
didn't factor in cases or power (this takes into
account that you would need at least one Zeroscillator
to get the variable-sync feature, which is unique to
it and the Fenix AFAIK)...

everyone has their own ideas what things worth. the
funny thing to me is that anyone who seems to placing
lower values on the Fenix probaby hasn't owned one.
and a lot of that from people on this list who have
probably spent way more than what I'm asking on their
Serge systems. go figure.

cheers,
kevin

Kevin,
If you can get that price, I say "more power to you" - I was merely
stating my own viewpoint based on my own observations, no animosity was
intended - or recieved, I hope :)

Kevin,
I'm sorry... should have kept my mouth shut but I WAS just trying to help appraise the
value of a wonderful piece of gear. I do own one and stated in my last post that while I
think 3K is a fair used price(and in line with the guys' intentions that made 'em and offered
them for $1400 a pop in the late 90's) they are worth OVER 5k in comparable Serge gear
(if you say $7600... then sorry! wow! I haven't done the math in a while) . But I also bought
2 used panels of Serge for 4k last year.... so, like you said... to each his own (for what its
worth. I'd take the Fenix filters over my 3 VCFQ's!).
Anyhow.. I appologize to you and to this list for my earlier evaluation (I hit send at the
same time you did ((ok.. you beat me by a second)).
And, for what its worth.... I'm pretty sure that Bert and Paap still uphold their warrenty and
will happily assist you with any issues you may encounter with your Fenix. Its all such
good stuff... its "priceless".

to each his own.

Re: Fenix price

I emailed and offered 2500 to maybe 3000 for the Fenix. I understand a
collector might pay more. I really would encourage the makers of the
Fenix to make another synth in Banana format.

Right now all that seems available is Serge/Modcan/Cynthia.

Although I did see a cool analog/digital banana educational computer
on Ebay. I should have picked it up. I was a fool not to. It had
boolean gates, some cheezy osc's and lots of other mental stuff that
did I don't know what. Ahhh. Those seem rarer than fenix's.
