Google Ads on Serge-Fans?

Google Ads on Serge-Fans?

2006-06-04 by Les Mizzell

Evening,

How would the group feel about me placing two small google ads at the
bottom of each page on the Serge-fans site like this:

http://www.serge-fans.com/wizardry-test.cfm

If the general consensus is "no", I won't do this. My guess is maybe $10
revenue from these each month, which would go back towards the hosting
bill.

Also, as soon as I get time, I'm going to convert the site from the
old-school table based layout into a CSS layout, and do some search
engine optimization, which the site has NONE of at the moment...

Thanks,

Les

Les,

I've been experimenting with that on www.mnmlnoise.com.
So far, the payback is minuscule.
What's serge-fans.com traffic like?

I think that would be perfectly acceptable.

... and you'd probably need to use the vertical format, nearer the top
of the page to get any
kind of click thru rate.

i think they're hideous, but if they help pay the bill...
also, whatever happened to the serge panel planner? that would
definitely increase traffic, i think.
also, i think some kind of affiliate program might work better than
google ads, but there's much more involved.

Agreed, which is why I've not done it before. The hosting bill isn't
much, but every dime helps when setting that monthly budget, huh?

I've tried them on another site I maintain for a non-profit group. This
site was always in the top five results on Google and Yahoo. I *just*
broke even each month with the hosting!

I forget whom originally wrote that at this particular second (James
Coplin?), but I wrote him and asked for the code so it could be added to
the site, and he wouldn't give permission for me to use it.

I've thought about writing my own, but, well, time and all. I may still
consider it, but it will be two or three months before I can give it any
consideration.

If you've got an idea, let me know! I wish somebody sold Serge other
than, uh, Serge (Analogue Haven for example....). Would make finding an
affiliate a little easier. If you've got an idea, please let me know!
