serge banana socket colour code

2006-08-02 by cray5656

hi all

as I bought a secondhand Serge modular I have no idea if you get more
info than i have, i am trying to work out the banana socket colours
and what they mean...here is what i have come up with

Blue = outputs audio and cv
red = inputs audio
black = cv only

am i nearly there or way off?

blue is dc coupled audio and CV, i believe,
red is triggers (DC)
and black is AC coupled audio

Blue=Unipolar (DC)
Black=Bipolar (AC)
Red=Logic (On or Off)

Both blue and black can be CV or audio...obviously black is bipolar (AC).

Blue is most commonly CV, black is most commonly audio and red is always a trig pulse, Logic or a gate.

Nothing is set in stone of course.

If you put a bipolar signal (black) into a unipolar input (blue) you *will* rectify the signal, regardless of weather its audio or cv ;)

BTW - Don't forget to read through the manual:
http://www.carbon111.com/sergebook.zip
If the first part is too easy, skip to the part about the particular module uses and patching.

...oh, and *never* connect outputs together without a mixer! Other than that, everything is fair game.

Hi James

What is the result if you accidentally connect 2 outputs without a
mixer?, as I did that just a few hours ago :-(

Nothing immediate. The Serge's outputs are buffered - but over time you
can destroy the modules that way. Its fine to have many inputs fed by
one source but outputs *always* need a mixer weather they're audio or CV.

Please read through Rich Gold's wonderful guidebook, it explains the
workings of the Serge Modular in the kind of detail I could never do in
an email ;)
