Serge Spring Reverb and headphones out.

Serge Spring Reverb and headphones out.

2008-12-07 by cray5656

after using the Buchla only for the last 2 months it was great to get
on the Serge again and use it in a different way...I really want to
get it to be more portable, the cabinet I built I cant even lift!

The Serge really is a BEAST of an analog synth, the Buchla is
instantly more fun but it doesnt have ( as yet) the raw analog balls
of the Serge.
Luckily someone is starting to make Buchla clones :-) so I will soon
have some nice vintage Buhcla VCOs :-)

What I think would really top off the Serge is a M series module with
a SPRING REVERB and a HEADPHONE jack...

Come on Rex I am sure you could come up with this :-)Everything that
has come out pretty much i the M series I already have and I want to
give you more money Mr Pull Chip

So they still make the Spring Reverb inside one of the factory panels?
I absolutely love that feature on my '79 panel. Almost everything becomes more organic and 3 dimensional when sent through it. Also I used to be in a surf rock band so that's sort of my thing. Would the reverb tank fit inside an M-series module even? I haven't opened my unit up to see the length they used.

Peace,
Kylee Kennedy

The original reverb in the 200 and the Serge are both very nice units.
I slightly prefer the Buchla reverb, but I also think Rex should make
a reverb panel for Serge again (perhaps with a pre-amp and mixer panel)
I can't imagine the reverb fitting inside the case as on the Buchla
for example, the cases are deeper, so it will fit. My Serge has 2
large tanks outside of the panels.
Having said that, with the reverb tanks outside the case, they can be
better isolated from knocks etc.

A Serge Modular Spreadsheet - Info, descriptions, diagrams...

2008-12-09 by Carbon111

Greetings Everybody,

Fellow Serge fan Ty Hodson has created a really nice spreadsheet
literally overflowing with all things Serge - Shop Panels, M-odules,
Fuction Blocks and plenty of graphics.
Created for his own reasearch purposes, Ty has been gracious enough to
allow me to host this resource as part of my Serge Information Pages
Project: http://carbon111.com/serge_index.html

A direct link to the page is here:
http://carbon111.com/serge_spreadsheet.html

Additions and/or corrections are most welcome!

Very Best regards, James

New Serge release

2008-12-09 by darkstr1746@comcast.net

at long last, more demented music from a failed mind. For those of you who are curious about Serge systems and/or modular music in general, you might enjoy this. Or not.
you decide
All the tunes on the release have Serge sounds as an integral part of the composition. Four of the tunes are entirely Serge compositions. The other tunes feature the Serge in varying degrees.
It's a free download.
hope you all enjoy and thanks for taking a listen.
kind regards
jd

So that's where the manual was hiding.
This thing rules...It's great to finally learn what my cryptic panels are trying to tell me.
The TKB says you can skip steps, yet I still haven't found a good reliable way to do it.
Otherwise so many things I've found helpful in last 5 minutes I've spent reading this.

Thanks for posting it and I hope it continues to get updates I think the last few M-Class panels are blank. Is that the same for everyone else a bad download on my side??

Peace,
Kylee

Re: A Serge Modular Spreadsheet - Info, descriptions, diagrams...

the way i get it to skip steps is:

say you wanna skip steps 9 through 11, patch the trig out #8 into ResetIn, play the sequence and touch pad #12; the seq will play 1-8, then skip to 12 and wrap around

..im pretty sure that's how it is ;-)

What an interesting label - how did you come across it? They even
have an album by Kit Watkins, harks back to the late '80s! Submission
requirements?

Will give it a good listen and then I'll sling some mud your way -
thanks for sharing. ;-)

Cheers -- Bill

Re: A Serge Modular Spreadsheet - Info, descriptions, diagrams...

2008-12-09 by ty hodson

Thanks all – I’m glad you’re finding it useful. Putting it together sure helped me get my head around the Serge offerings past/present. I spent HOURS over several days while on vacation reading, copying/pasting, downloading PDFs, copying/pasting, editing panel images here and there, copying/pasting… Since I didn’t own any Serge anything yet, none of the wording is my own. It all comes from old catalogs, bits from the serge-users.com site, James’ website, etc.

Speaking of which – thank you, James, for hosting it on your site! James hit it on the head, which is that I was trying to pull all the fragments of information out there into one place for my own ease of planning and research. If you see something you’ve written show up in the spreadsheet, and if you want it removed, by all means just let me know.

Kylee said: “I think the last few M-Class panels are blank. Is that the same for everyone else a bad download on my side??”

I think you may have a bad download. I downloaded it from James’ site to see for myself, and all the M-Class panels are there. That does remind me though that I should mention there are a few individual module diagrams missing, and some module descriptions missing as well. If you’d like to contribute images or descriptions (or any other corrections/additions/subtractions) please float them my way.

Thanks!
ty

No, I hear you! Umm… you could try using scaling to shrink to fit. But then the problem is shrink to fit what? Poster paper? ; ) OK, scratch that. Yeah, I didn’t really put this together with printing in mind… A spreadsheet gave me the kind of open-ended workspace I needed when I was first trying to decide how to lay the data out. Once I got going I just sorta stuck with it.

Here’s another idea though: You could copy/paste the text to something more print-friendly, like Word or some Open Office equivalent. A bit of a pain if you have large amounts that you want to print out, but hey – at least I did some of the collating for you. hehe…

Re: A Serge Modular Spreadsheet - Info, descriptions, diagrams...

2008-12-09 by Kylee Kennedy

What I meant to say was the M-Class has a few panels without descriptions. The pictures are there. I think this info could easily be rearranged now to an HTML page (easier for searching).
I'd love to see something like this spreadsheet with a few patching ideas like the old vintage manuals like MS-20 or ARP 2600.. Whistle sound or Oboe, Banjo or Bell. I like to start from those patches sometimes to get my head around what they are accomplishing with the patch then explore further.

Now I'm looking at the Soup Kitchen and Fun Panels, maybe another TKB..so I could float it around to other modulars. So many possibilities but not enough money right now. :)

Later,
Kylee
