Replying to the SMOG list

Replying to the SMOG list

2009-06-06 by Tony Cappellini

For those who still don't know how to reply to a mailing list-

When replying, do not copy every message of the list into your reply. Noon wants to read the same messages over and over
because you are too lazy to do it the right way.

Just reply with a few lines of the original message, so everyone can understand the context of your reply.

Where the are the list moderators and why don't they do their job ?

You're complaining pointlessly about something that will probably
never change. The internet is now easier than ever to access, so
there are obviously going to be a ton of computer illiterate and
new-to-the-internet types everywhere. Get over it, and stop taking
yourself and the internet so seriously. If you don't have the mental
capacity to ignore the other messages being quoted, you've got other
problems.

And this is the Internet after all, so I get to be as rude as a donkey's hindquarters and you can't do anything about it...

Get over it indeed.

Well.. if a thread spirals out of control, then it can get closed or if someone's abusing the list and ignores warnings, they can get banned...

.. besides.. dont you think there's enough rudeness out there?

Do voice your opinion.. and you're more likely to get a favorable response being polite.. right ;-)?

.. but then again.. I could be wrong.. its your choice I guess..

No one had raised an issue about response includes until Tony brought it up - had not seen a comment like it since 1990 when Internet NetNews users where concerned about bandwidth consumption due to company policies restricting bandwidth allocation/consumption to this resource (that betrays my age, yikes! ;-)

The list hasn't had a sheriff since John P back in Nov '08, so there is no one here to moderate civility, proper grammar or singular netiquette since then. I'd say the list has been getting along quite well without one.

Cheers -- Bill
