Here is a programming idea that is not my idea. Andrew introduced it here on the list and talked to me a little about it. I gave him some feedback there, and I have been thinking about it since then. I thought I might share some implementation ideas on the subject. Andrew's idea was to use a CV in on the PSIM-1 to cause it to generate 3 or 4 CVs out that represented a "chord." I think this could be a huge benefit to be used with a sequencer or keyboard. My thought is that multiple CV ins could be used to provide more input as to how that chord might be structured. And, I think one CV input should be dedicated to determining the chord while the others specify something else about the chord. This would make it keyboard use friendly too. OK, so CV1 determines the chord. The incoming CV is the root of the chord. It sweeps the entire keyboard range. So, the chord is also sensitive to what octave it is located in. You get 4 CVs out, that represent 4 notes. CV2 determines the type of chord. This should be generated from a smaller CV range. So you chord can be major, minor, dom7, maj7, min7, deminished, augmented, and so on. One of these choices should also be "IN key." So for example if you wanted to add that ever so hard to add 3rd interval on a keyboard riff, the output # 2 would alternate between 3 and 4 semitones playing only the notes IN that particular key. CV3 could be an inversion contol. Like the chord select, it could have a limited range. Each semitone up on the incoming CV could cause the inversion to increase or decrease by one. CV4 might set the key signature for using all IN key functions. Of course, this could easily be done with an external transpose control. Maybe the 4th CV has a better input use. I have not thought this one last one through too much. Anyhow, I just thought I would throw this concept out into the pool to augment Andrew's fine idea.
