Hello everyone. For those of you who have already ordered a PSIM-1... I ran into a bit of a snag. Since returning from AHMW 2004, I've been busy working on PSIM-1 modules as best I can. I ran out of 1/8" jacks because the mounting hardware that Mouser sent wasn't machined correctly from the factory. They are sending replacements... but it'll be a few more days before I can resume assembling modules. I could keep working around the clock populating PCB's... but I have decided to take a couple days off to get my head screwed on straight again. The last two weeks have been a bit of a blur and then approximately 72 hours without sleep leading up to AHMW 2004 really took its toll on me. * I would like to publicly thank Todd Faulkner who rode with me to AHMW 2004. Had he not been with me... I probably would have ended up spending Saturday night sleeping in my car in a ditch some where along I-69. Shortly after starting the drive home... Todd took over driving and the next thing I remember was backing into my driveway. Todd... thank you. * So... in summary... I'm taking a couple days off while waiting on the replacement parts from Mouser. If anyone still wants to order a PSIM-1... I still have a few (maybe four or five) complete modules and I think three "Partial" modules available. That's it folks. Remember, I'll be building and shipping in the order in which the orders are received. It might take me a few weeks to get them all built and shipped... but I'll get them done. Also, once you're already ordered your SynthModules PSIM-1... don't forget to get a Wiard Noise Ring, a couple Wiard Joystick Controllers, and a Wiard Joystick Axis Generator. Need power and a place to mount all these new modules? Drop by Blacet's site and get a rack cage, a PS500 power supply, and some other modules too while you're there. You all know the links. Finally... you've heard about the new SpeakJet chip... and maybe even heard samples of it on my site or at AHMW 2004. Click on the link below to find out more information. Take care... - Brice http://www.SynthModules.com "We are the music makers...and we are the dreamers of the dreams." - Willy Wonka, 1971

I received the replacements nuts (for the 1/8" jacks) from Mouser today. Unfortunately... they are the wrong ones. So, we're looking at approximately two weeks before the correct nuts for the jacks are shipped. Sorry folks. However, that's not going to stop me from building the PCB's. So, once the nuts for the jacks do arrive, things should be moving along fairly smoothly. Well, so long as the beer is good, no worries! :-) -- john (Just trying to bring a smile to Brice's face, with apologies to those waiting for their PSIM. Besides, Brice still ships a lot faster than Wiard! Oops -- sorry, Grant! Not saying your modules aren't worth the wait, too!!)

I did get some sleep. It's amazing what a difference it makes! ;-) Anyway... I'm currently unpacking my gear from last Saturday's AHWM 2004. That was an incredible experience. I did learn a lot of things too.... like you can't have too many patch cords! I also found out I need LONG patch cords for events like that. The amp I brought was garbage and sounded like such. I knew it would... but didn't have anything else except my powered PC speakers/sub and didn't have time to disconnect everything. Anyway... I'm currently working on the next two PSIM-1 modules that I need to get shipped ASAP. I have nuts for those I snagged off a couple of my own modules for now. I need to get the rest of my synth set back up so I can test them. Yes, these are a "special" pair. No details just yet... so please don't ask. I just need to get them shipped immediately. So... back to work. - Brice "The trouble with real life is that there's no danger music." - Jim Carrey from "The Cable Guy" ----- Original Message -----

No. It means I will be adding my own *larger* nuts when I get it for that deep throaty sound - kind of like my Harley. :) Larry --- youdono2001 <scottnoanh@peoplepc.com> wrote: > Hey Larry, > > Does that mean your PSIM will be able to hit higher notes? =-D > > Cheers, > Scott > > > --- In SynthModules@yahoogroups.com, Larry Hendry <hendrysr@y...> > wrote: > > Wow! Just a reminder... the Start and Stop buttons (and CV inputs associated with them) can be programmed to do many different functions. Same with the red and green LED's. The blue output indicator LED's can't be programmed as they are just level indicators. Also, the AUX jack can be an input or an output. New ATOMPRO IDE and Manual are in the works. We should see those *soon*. Days, weeks... not months. Still a few PSIM-1's available. We're down to only a couple of each (complete and partial). Don't miss out! :-) Take care, Brice "We are the music makers...and we are the dreamers of the dreams." - Willy Wonka, 1971

Here is a programming idea that is not my idea. Andrew introduced it here on the list and talked to me a little about it. I gave him some feedback there, and I have been thinking about it since then. I thought I might share some implementation ideas on the subject. Andrew's idea was to use a CV in on the PSIM-1 to cause it to generate 3 or 4 CVs out that represented a "chord." I think this could be a huge benefit to be used with a sequencer or keyboard. My thought is that multiple CV ins could be used to provide more input as to how that chord might be structured. And, I think one CV input should be dedicated to determining the chord while the others specify something else about the chord. This would make it keyboard use friendly too. OK, so CV1 determines the chord. The incoming CV is the root of the chord. It sweeps the entire keyboard range. So, the chord is also sensitive to what octave it is located in. You get 4 CVs out, that represent 4 notes. CV2 determines the type of chord. This should be generated from a smaller CV range. So you chord can be major, minor, dom7, maj7, min7, deminished, augmented, and so on. One of these choices should also be "IN key." So for example if you wanted to add that ever so hard to add 3rd interval on a keyboard riff, the output # 2 would alternate between 3 and 4 semitones playing only the notes IN that particular key. CV3 could be an inversion contol. Like the chord select, it could have a limited range. Each semitone up on the incoming CV could cause the inversion to increase or decrease by one. CV4 might set the key signature for using all IN key functions. Of course, this could easily be done with an external transpose control. Maybe the 4th CV has a better input use. I have not thought this one last one through too much. Anyhow, I just thought I would throw this concept out into the pool to augment Andrew's fine idea.
