Computer Voltage Source

2006-03-01 by Grant Richter

We need to set up a new site where we can take the discussion of new computer voltage
sources based on the Basic Atom Pro. They will be backward code compatible with this
design, but with improved I/O.

When I designed the software architecture, I made sure to keep the I/O routines modular,
so upgrading analog I/O only requires rewriting the LOADALLDACS and ADCIN
subroutines. The buffer variables remain the same.

I expect to see a new PC board which will use the Basic Atom Pro 28 pin version. The
board will include the MIDI interface, DIN interface, 1 volt per octave calibrated INPUTS and
outputs with voltage multiplexors to expand the number of I/O channels.

All of the drawings Brice did will be replaced by new drawings so they can be published
publicly. A new faceplate layout will be needed, since the new board will support so many
new features. The name will be changed to be polite to Brice.

I expect all of this to be in the public domain properly this time. Wiard will not be involved
in manufacturing or distribution. This will probably be a group effort of the SynthDIY guys.

There is no intention of violating the copyrights Brice holds on the faceplate artwork,
schematic drawing, PC board layout or the name PSIM. Brice is free to continue to make
and sell the PSIM under our original public domain agreement.

share code. To avoid some of the current issues regarding ownership and licensing, I
propose that the actual authors of the individual programs post their own code, and will
leave it to their discretion what licensing restrictions (if any) they wish to include.

on you personally. I'm trying to constructivly address a couple of the issues (code
ownership, availability & licensing) we've been discussing. Perhaps by alleviating the
burden of "managing" PSIM programming code, you'll have more time to devote to
fulfilling your hardware committments. I hope that you'll choose to contribute your own
PSIM code to the site when you have time (licensed as you see fit), but obviously that will
be your choice.
