step sequencer - interfaces

step sequencer - interfaces

2004-03-03 by Andrew Scheidler

I am constantly thinking about the perfect slider/knob/switch interface
for the perfect PSIM-based step sequencer. I wish I knew more about how
a processor and the controls work together.

I understand how (software wise) there can be 16 steps of 16 parameters
in the PSIM, but are there limits in regards to the actual hardware
controls? I'm guessing the processor constantly "scans" the various
sliders/knobs/switches to check their current values, but how much does
this slow down the program?

Just how many controls is reasonable for a real-time hardware interface?
Could a panel with 16 sliders, 16 knobs, 2x16 on/off switches be used
with a PSIM?

And can someone build me one right away? :)

I am 100% convinced that the perfect step-sequencer (for me) is the
above panel, along with a never-ending software write!
