non-programmar who is getting a P-SIM question.....

non-programmar who is getting a P-SIM question.....

2004-03-01 by phdinfunk

Okay, I haven't programmed anything since I made a basic program to
count prime numbers at computer camp about 12 years ago (when I was
13).......

I bought a PSIM though, thinking it would be useful as a shift
register, EG, slew rate limiter, quantizer, etc, etc, etc.... all
things that I can use. Also, I REALLY dig the speech synth samples
and I want the speech synth add-on as soon as it comes out.

I have a few questions:

1) Is it possible to have a quantizer mode that quantizes to a
scale? Like on the MINI-WAVE?

2) One of the functions listed this module could serve was delay,
does that mean gate delay or audio delay or what?

3) Is there ANY WAY at all to add on extra program RAM, or even a
switchable PROM or something, so that maybe the two or three programs
you use most could be easily recallable (or the one program even you
use most)? I know I'm pushing it here, but I think mine, for
instance, will get a LOT of use as a quantizer/shift register and
maybe as an extra ADSR or LFO or something.... and if it does delay,
than I'll probably use that a bunch too..... Once the speech module
comes out, I'll want that useable all the time. It would be useful
if at least once the speech module comes out if you wouldn't have to
switch out programs so much to run the speech module, like if it had
it's own flash RAM or something. I'd pay for the add-on board for
more RAM or ROM, I'd even solder one together myself if it wasn't
super difficult.

Okay, cool..... Thanks for reading, those are my "non-programmar,
but synth lover" questions..

Thanks,
Jonathan Pratt

Personally, I am not fond of the PalmOS interface in lieu of a program
bank module - not that I don't like gadgets, but I to want to
necessarily have a palm hanging off my system.

IMHO, an ideal setup would be if a program bank was created, much like
the one made to store Micro Wave waveform banks, and it could reside
in an adjacent module space to one or several PSIM-1s.

One would then download a set of apps to the bank and each PSIM-1
could be assigned from the bank.

Yes.

Gate and other CVs, not audio.

Good questions. This has come up, and I suggested a program bank switch
module. Others have suggested a PalmOS interface, which would be pretty
cool -- especially if if will run on my Clie. ;-)

It should be possible (I'm a little behind on my PSIM experiements, myself,
so I'm not ready to try this) to load a multi-function program that can
change "modes." A CV input could be used to switch noe mode to another.
Memory constraints will be a factor, here, but otherwise it should be quite
possible.

Of the 32K of flash on the chip, the modt complex program yet
has only used 8K. So at least 4 applications should be able to
reside in flash. Just don't know how to switch between them at
start up. That is something Brice will have to figure out.

EXCITING!!

Really, if I could just set this thing up to switch between two or
three most used programs, I'd be happy!!!!

Just a quantizer/shift register alone is a bitching, absoluetly
BITCHING module to own... my miniwave is already getting a lot too
much duty in quant mode, so being able to free it up to make pretty
waveforms would be super nice.... I haven't even got the PSIM-1 yet
and I'm already excited about it!
