PhrasAlator not talking to comm ports

PhrasAlator not talking to comm ports

2004-04-23 by djbrow54

I posted this also on the Speakjet group. I'm having the exact same
problem. I can talk to the speakjet in hyperterminal and can see the
data with a scope on the RS-232 pin 3. In PhraseAlator I see no data.
I had to install the MSCOMM32.OCX file in the \system32 and run
REGSVR32.EXE to register it. I am running WindowsXP Pro.

Any other suggestions?

Dave

What version of PhraseAlator are you running? How do you have the Mode
select pins wired/switched? What baud rate are you using to communicate
with the SpeakJet? It defaults to 9600 baud and sometimes... needs to be
reset.

For normal operation (see page 2 of the Operator's Manual), M0 (mode
select - pin 13) should be tied low (GND) and M1 (pin 12) should be tied
high (+5V). To place it into demo mode, place +5 on M0. To reset
(autodetect) the baud rate, put it into demo mode, then momentarily put M1
low. You should hear a sonar ping. Put M1 back to high. Once it has
detected the baud rate, it will automatically go back into demo mode. Then,
simply take it out of demo mode and all should work fine.

I just noticed the schematic online doesn't show M1 (SpeakJet pin 12) tied
to +5 through a resistor (1k should be fine). This pin must be tied high
for normal operation. If left floating... it's probably confused as to what
it's supposed to be doing.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks,
Brice

I can communicate through the PC to the SpeakJet, just not through
the PhraseAlator program. I am running (I think) the latest, 1.3.

I am not seeing any data coming from the PC serial port on a scope.
In hyperterminal I can type and see the 10 bits of data (e.g. $41
for an A). In PhrasAlator I can never see any data being output
from the PC in any of the modes (send sync, say it, etc.)

I don't know what the MSCOMM32.OCX does but I would expect it to be
the library or binding for communication. I'm thinking that perhaps
this wasn't registered correctly or some other layer binding is
incorrect.

Re: PhrasAlator not talking to comm ports - FIXED

2004-04-24 by djbrow54

There is a patched release of PhrasAlator which fixed this problem. The postings are on the SpeakJet group messages. This fixed my problem.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
