Please know that this is not entirely directed at you, but to all out there who sell things and put the onus of the Paypal fees on the buyer. First off, sellers who take CCs have long since discontinued this practice of chargeback. In the case of private seller, why leave the step of this to the buyer? It's not only one more step in discouraging them, but you should certainly know what the fee is if you are using Paypal. Why not add sales tax too? Just in case you get audited? Yes, I am stretching it, but you might as well say $290 and be done with it. Shipping may be different of course, but again, this wasn't mentioned. And yes, I am a little peeved after recently getting clipped from an unnamed UK firm who not only charged Paypal fees, but threw in 15 BPs for shipping on a 2BP envelope. The reason? They had to go to the PO because in Britain they don't pickup at a home address, apparently. Does anyone think that Amazon actually gives you free shipping? Nobody is that nice. <End diatribe/> John

Sometimes sellers (private and otherwise) offer a few choices for the buyer to pay. For example if someone pays by cash or USPS MO then there are no fees. If they choose to pay by paypal there are fees. The seller is usually looking to simply get their price so it's basically up to the buyer to decide if they care to pay paypal (or other fees) or find another way. More importantly there is now paypal "personal payment" which does not cost the buyer or seller any fees for most types of sales. The buyer has to choose personal payment at the time of buying and pay via balance or bank transfer (no credit cards) but if they do the seller will get the full amount and therefore there might not be any additional fees paid. I mentioned this on all my sales in the past year but despite this it seems almost everyone ignored this option and I ended up getting 3-4% less than my asking price as a result. When that happens now, I give the buyer the option for personal payment and if they don't do it I ask for the paypal fee which I think is more than fair. Just my 3.4% --- In The_Cyndustries_List@yahoogroups.com, John Hammaren <hammaren@...> wrote:
