theremin UK portal

It really sounds fab what you are doing with the UK theremin portal, good on
you, I will try and be a good ambasador for it and use it. I think the
problem most of us have is time - I only confirmed the tour details with
Masami Takeuchi 10 days before, then it took me another 5 days to get it out
to people... If you can make use of more Web 2.0 technologies e.g. RSS feeds
the easier keeping a portal up to date becomes.

From my own profession, I've worked in online publishing for 6 years, and
most recently for quangos (public-private organisations) where we're always
talking about developing a portal for this and a portal for that... loads of
money gets thrown at it, and within 6 months the motivators behind the
project leave and it gets abandoned in cyberspace like a floating white
elephant...

The keys to portal/social networking success are:
make it do something that everyone appreciates and values.
Engagement to get everyone using it.
Ownership - make people feel it's owned by them collectively.

Personally, I'm terrible about updating my own website, let alone anyone
else's, and I'm probably more web-savvy and organised than most musicians!

Wouldn't a MySpace theremin group do a lot of this stuff? E.g. people
already post details of their gigs, links to their music files & videos...
although it's a bit limited on functionality like adding in documents,
links, resources...
Sorry to throw in the Rupert Murdoch financed option, but it's what people
are already using...!

Anyway, genuinally do eagerly await details of theremin UK portal.
