John, Good eye. :-) Yes, as of 10/1/2007, PNRN is licensed with BMI. The payment for the license with ASCAP went in the mail today, and I'm waiting for it to arrive before posting that to the site. This doesn't change all that much. What it permits me to do is: * Play covers and classical works written after 1930 * Artists who are members of those organizations might get royalties This also simplifies the music clearance process, as I now only need to clear the sound recording, where before I needed to clear that and the songwriter's rights as well. This changes nothing for most people, as only a minority of the artists on Spellbound were members of ASCAP or BMI as songwriters. But for those that are, it should set you up to begin receiving some royalties, maybe. And a couple of thereminists who originally declined permission for airplay because of concerns over waiving PRO rights have now granted me airplay permission now that the performance licensing is covered. Which means....more new music coming on Spellbound! :-) ----- DAVID VESEL -- synthetic music for humans http://davidv.purplenote.com davidv@... ----- The Purple Note Radio Network: Spellbound, a brief program of music for theremin Sunday 10PM-12AM http://spellbound.purplenote.com Different Drummers: Rare Instruments and Unusual Music Coming Soon http://diffdrum.purplenote.com ----- John Hoge wrote: > Hey Aetherphonics, > > Actually this is a Spellbound question, and I have to confess I'm not > very knowledgeable of music rights issues: > > I just noticed the emblem "BMI Music Played Here" on the spellbound site. > Does that mean Spellbound is free to play BMI recordings, or can > artists now also play along to existing BMI recordings and they would > be cleared for Spellbound? > > It looks like good news for the show whatever the details are! > > Hope you are all well out here! > > Skol - John > www.hoge-theremin.com > > > AETHERPHON, the glocal thereminist community > > To contact the moderator, e-mail porphyrous@... > > > > Yahoo!
