You have certain got me laughing with your comment "as letting a novice loose on a theremin is not necessarily a customer-friendly action". I had not even thought of that. lol! Oh, just let me imagine what could happen. Maybe I should take my cassette player along for the experience. lol! Seriously, thank you for the heads up on this. I really didn't think about it. Also, I really appreciate your finding these locations where there might be a theremin. Virginia Beach would be perfect. I'm about one hour from there. I use to play in the symphony in Richmond, but that's not so close--about two hours north of me. I have a friend that has a music store in Norfolk, a city even closer to me, however he does not have any theremins. I was amazed that he had heard of them, but though he is a jazz musician (drummer), he has never physically seen one. It would be wonderful if they had one in Virginia Beach.
