Dear group, Many thanks to David Wesel for founding this new group. When RCA produced and marketed the theremin in 1929 they presented it as the perfect domestic instrument in the 20th-century American home, just as the piano had been in the 19th century. Well... things didn't quite turn out that way, as we all know. But perhaps now in the 21st, thanks to groups like this one? Kind regards, Olivia Mattis

Hello, Olivia: >When RCA produced and marketed the theremin in 1929 they presented it as the perfect domestic instrument> The theremin proved hard to domesticate. Most found it very hard to house-train. But I do think, more than ever, it's the instrument of the future. Even now, jst about eleven years from it's 100th birthday, it's amazing how many people have never seen or heard one. Though many of us grew up hearing it in scary Sci-Fi movies, very few realize what it was that was making the sound. Every time I perform, the majority of people believe the instrument to be something new and futuristic. I suspect, that because of it "touchless" attributes, it will always seem like something that belongs in the future. Seems like the theremin's being played and seen by more people than ever before. On another note, I had the pleasure of meeting Lydia Kavina in 200o. When I asked her about workshops in the U.S., I believe she mentioned your name in connection with their scheduling. I know she'll be at EtherFest in Ashville this summer, but I'm unable to attend, and I was wondering about other possible seminar/workshops.It was six years ago, so I may be incorrect. If I'm wrong, feel free to ignore this last paragraph.

Well, while she's over here anyway... If Ms. Kavina was available for a master class in the NYC area I'd definately be interested. I understand that at EM2005, Lydia had timeslots for private lessons. Will there be an opportunity for private lessons with Ms. Kavina at EM2006? Any info much appreciated! -- Kevin Quoting John Hoge <johnbhoge@...>:
