Theremin Planet - a second opinion

Theremin Planet - a second opinion

2006-09-16 by Oscar

HI folks,

There is a 1-antennae theremin (an aetherphone then) built and sold by a pair of guys
at Barcelona. I don't know them personally, but I have my own strong opinion about it
and specially about its price: 130 Euro (about 165 USA dollars), plus shipping.

It is sold at www.thereminplanet.com and ebay.
You can even see a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_SzHVnTupo

I would like to know your opinions about it

Cheers,

Óscar

It's got a nice box. I wonder how much it would cost without the
pointless electrical components.

Aetherphons aren't necessarily a bad thing - those Japanese matronims
are fun and playable - but this? No thank you.

Well, reading my email again it seems I was trying to sold somehow that
aetherphone.
Nothing more far to reality.

I said I have a strong opinion about it. The opinion is that one thing like
that could be
a good toy if it had a more realistic prize, but never should be taken as a
'real' instrument.

The sad thing about this is that they're selling this worldwide and this
has its own comsequences:
people thinking they have a theremin and asking how to play 'this', and
people
playing it in concert just for noise and making other people think that
theremins are just that.

If only they were not claiming this...:

" The circuit is a dual Heterodyne oscillator (like the Classical 1950's
designs used in countless
Sci-fi Movies) The same type as prestigious theremins like Etherwave Moog
has"

...I would only think it is just an overprized toy. But I wonder what Moog
Music would think about this sentence. It could be technically true, but
makes inexperienced people think it is like a Moog...

How much do you folks think this aetherphone should be prized being
realistic?
