Film scoring opportunity
2007-07-29 by David V
Hello all, This came to me via Spellbound's MySpace profile. Looks like a pretty cool opportunity. Please contact the contact person directly. Thanks! The film is called Golgotha and the MySpace profile is located at http://www.myspace.com/golgothathemovie ---------------------------------- Hey, I'm Karla---I'm directing a film that's a modern black & white fantasy in the vein of Fritz Lang silent films---most of it's silent with intertitles, dramatic makeup, completely over-the-top...you get the picture. Anyway, I wanted a score that was both creepy and quirky without being atonal or non-melodic, and I decided that theremin was just the right instrument: both moody and playful, frightening and beautiful---much like the eponymous female villain protagonist of the film. I'm looking for classical thereminists (or folks who can play melodic stuff) to cover classical songs on theremin. Stuff that sticks in your head---strong hooks (since it's silent and music is so important to the picture). They can contribute original stuff, too. It's a non-paying indie film I'm producing entirely by myself, so I wish I could pay, but I can't. I think it's a really fun project though---feature length---and I'm going to attempt to use Clara Rockmore songs alot (if I could ever figure out how to get permission), but there's alot of stuff that still needs music. Anyway, to the question: I was wondering if you could shed some light on such thereminists for me, if you knew of any who won't be ridiculously busy for the next couple of months and could get me their contributions by the end of September or so. Even one song is a help. Pre-recorded or not is fine. I'm also willing to send roughcuts of scenes to certain people who would like to score something along with the visuals, or compose an original piece that has that silent-film, antiquated sound. 'Thought it couldn't hurt to ask. :) Your site and ThereminWorld may be my only hope! (laughs) Take care, - Karla Jean Davis ps. - If you haven't figured it out, I'm messaging you from the film profile. There's a teaser on the site, if you're curious. -- ----- DAVID VESEL -- synthetic music for humans http://davidv.purplenote.com davidv@... ----- The Purple Note Radio Network: Spellbound, a brief program of music for theremin Sunday 10PM-12AM http://spellbound.purplenote.com Different Drummers: Rare Instruments and Unusual Music Coming Soon -----
