Hi thereminists - I got this email today - can anyone offer any
insight or thoughts? perhaps someone could also pose to Levnet group
and send any comments/responses directly back to Killian.
Thanks,

Susi

Dear Madam,

My name is Killian Downing and I'm a student researching the use of
the theremin the context of music therepy at N. U. I. Maynooth, Co.
Kildare, Ireland. I have read with interest the information on your
website. I was wondering if you had any information or thoughts
regarding the potential of the theremin in music therepy. I currently
use the instrument for children with learning disabilities in a school
near me, where they use this instrument with much eagerness and
enjoyment, for expression, developing better gestural co-ordination,
and self-awareness etc.

I have been unable to find any significant information as such, and
was wondering if you might be able to advise me on this subject.

Thanks you if you can assist me in anyway!

Susi,

Kip Rosser partnered with Moog and did a big presentation on the therapeutic
uses of the theremin at last year's American Music Therapy Association
Conference. You should definately hook up with him about this. He may be
part of this yahoo list but I haven't seen him respond to anything so he may
not check it much if he is.

Here's the ThereminWorld article about the conference with a link to the
press release.

hope that helps,
John

Hi Susi (and Killian)

Not strictly theremin, but a very close relative, is the Soundbeam,
which is a MIDI-compatible spatial-control instrument specifically
designed for education and therapy. Have a look at
http://www.jaxontonewall.com/ for an example of it in use - there is a
fairly comprehensive section on the use of the system and plenty of
links to the manufacturer site and other users.
