For Sale: Keppinger Theremin

For Sale: Keppinger Theremin

2008-09-25 by Bret

I have a Keppinger Theremin and am considering selling it to make room
in my studio.

I would rather sell it to one of you, than put it up on ebay.

Kep looks like the standard Keppinger theremin
http://www.thereminmaker.com/pictures.htm

except Steven Hasten added external trim controls (total of 4) to the
back of the chassis for easy access. Steven built many (most?) of the
Keppinger theremins, and this was his personal theremin.

You can see pictures of Kep (along with Maunette, my AR1264) here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigthirstytowels/sets/72157594174571949/

I took these pictures quite some time back. I will be glad to take
more pictures if you request, especially to show the 4 trim controls
or any other detail that you want to see.

Kep is in great condition, just a little dusty on the chassis. The
chrome chassis, bright red coils and lovely book-matched grain on the
cabinet make this a very attractive theremin, with wonderful all tube
(valve) tone.

If you want a vacuum tube theremin, can't afford or find an AR1264,
can't build your own, then this could be a good opportunity for you.

I have a custom wooden crate (also made by Steven) for safe shipment.

Please contact me off levnet if you are interested.

I would also consider trading Kep for either an Etherwave Pro, a Tvox
Tour, an Ethervox (ok, that's not going to happen), or an original
Rhythmicon :-)

Mark Keppinger kindly filled me in on the details of the his vacuum tube theremin:

Mark wrote:

There were only eight of these fine instruments built. I still have the
first one. The second went to the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. When
word got out, Steven Hasten contacted me, and wanted to be a part of
what I was doing. I had parts for six more, and told him that if he
built them for me, he could have one for himself. Naturally, he 'cherry
picked' the one that he liked the most, and gave the utmost attention
to it's adjustments. That's the one you have.

So where the others? Well, like I said, I have one. Jon Spencer has
one. A collector in Holland has one. A recording studio in Honolulu has
one. The president of a company that does special effects engineering
for a large Anaheim corporation (also Florida, France, Japan, etc) has
one. You have one. I'm not sure about the others..."

Bret,

Do you have a ball park figure of what you want for it?
