Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson takes the wraps off the San
Francisco Ballet's 78th repertory season today to reveal a new
production of George Balanchine's "Coppélia" and world premieres by
Christopher Wheeldon and choreographer in residence Yuri Possokhov.
In addition, the 2011 season will include company premieres of works
by Sir Kenneth MacMillan and Wayne McGregor, the return of Tomasson's
"Giselle" and John Neumeier's "The Little Mermaid," as well as Michel
Fokine's "Petrouchka," William Forsythe's "Artifact Suite" and Renato
Zanella's "Underskin." The Zanella, "Petrouchka" and Neumeier were
highlights of the current season.
Program 8: Neumeier's "The Little Mermaid," April 30, May 1*, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7*.
I recommend a trip to see the ballet and any locals should have no excuse for not catching this.
If any of you would like to join me a top some craggy roost, on some beach, park or precipice and
do some quality theremin music and perhaps picnic, hobnob and warp space and time during this
happy time, please let me know. I should imagine walpurgis night at Corona Heights, or that other
heights to the south with the strange eldritch stone ring should be most interesting - you may wish
to bring a couple of boxes of salt and a flagon of holy water if you doubt my aegis and the good
aroma of virtue. Earplugs, of course, are recommended for the naive, unwashed and virginal.
