S-1000 and S-1000PB dont support FX cards. If you want a FX board,- you need a S-1100. The FX in the S-1100 are quite usable. You cannot use RAM and FX cards of S-3000(i) in a S-1xxx series sampler. S-1xxx series samplers accept SCSI drives up to 512MB size and MOD (magneto optical drive) up to 500MB / 512k clusters pre-formatted. You can use ZIP drives also. Its picky on CD-ROM drives,- old Apple 2x and 4x are guaranteed to work,- thats what Im using here. All refering to SCSI only, not SCSI II or UW and such. AFAIK, S-1xxx series reads S-900 disks,- Im not sure if it reads S-950,- check it out.
