Akai s1000 newbei questions

2011-02-08 by Uk Starski

hi Guys

i have just got myself an akai S1000 & have a few questions :-

Does it come with built in Fx card or it that an option extra ?
Are the FX'sany good ?
Can i use the RAM & FX's cards from my Akai s3000i in the s1000?
Can i use my S3000 internal SCSI drive in the s1000?
Does the s1000 read & save 950 floppy discs

cheers

Marc

both no, there's no effects on S1000

no.

i don't know.

read yes. the S900 has 12bit and the S1000 16bit, so these are different formats. you can load S900 disks though, but can't write them in S900 format again.

S-1000 and S-1000PB dont support FX cards.
If you want a FX board,- you need a S-1100.
The FX in the S-1100 are quite usable.

You cannot use RAM and FX cards of S-3000(i) in a S-1xxx series sampler.

S-1xxx series samplers accept SCSI drives up to 512MB size and MOD
(magneto optical drive) up to 500MB / 512k clusters pre-formatted.
You can use ZIP drives also.
Its picky on CD-ROM drives,- old Apple 2x and 4x are guaranteed to
work,- thats what Im using here.

All refering to SCSI only, not SCSI II or UW and such.

AFAIK, S-1xxx series reads S-900 disks,- Im not sure if it reads
S-950,- check it out.

Akai S-1000 didn´t come w/ a FX board and there isn´t any expansion slot for a FX board.
Akai S-1100 came w/ a FX board.

In a S-1100,- yes.

> Can i use the RAM & FX's cards from my Akai s3000i in the s1000?

No.

> Can i use my S3000 internal SCSI drive in the s1000?

Is not recomended adding a HDD to a S-1000 internaly because there´s no fan.
Well,- there was a Akai S-1000 HD model on the market.

To be true,- I don´t know HOW to add a HDD to a S-1000 internally,- maybe a mounting kit is needed.

In any case, a S-1000 can adress SCSI HDDs up to 540MB / 520MB formatted only, anything else is wasted disk space.
This rules for external HDDs connected to IB-103 SCSI interface card and would be the same w/ a internal drive.

Yes,- make sure you have latest OS eproms or latest OS on a floppy disk inserted in the drive at bootup.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
