AKAI S-1000 / S-1100 default SCSI ID is
#6 !
Cant be changed.
Set your drives to any other than ID #6,- so #0 - #5 and/or #7
When you have a working SCSI card in your S-1000 / S-1100 dont even think about internal termination, I never did and Im an old fart and 1st owner.
You have a working drive, a 50-pin Centronics cable you plug between drive and sampler and a 50-pin Centronics terminator plug (passive or active,- active is w/ LED) you plug on the 2nd SCSI connector your CD-ROM drive-case offers.
Now do the ID settings ...
Thats all.

Where is located those terminators? I didn't find any manuals how install hard drive or SCSI board description... I think my CD drive terminated in the end otherwise it could not work with other samplers.
I changed ID number to 5 in CD-ROM and now S1100 read CD disk successfully, I guess that 5 is default number when system start and scan for ext hard drive... owner's manual says when install internal HD the number must be 5, so I connected external CD drive to SCSI card and it works only with ID 5.
