Hi,
Just bought myself a s1100 in great condition, maxed out!
When I got to the studio to test it, it doesn't work!!
The guy who sold it is a reliable dude, so I called him up and told
him about this. He told me it work two weeks ago.
When I opened it up I can see that there is a small diod on what
appears to be the powersupply card (attached to the left side of the
sampler)so it seems to work so far. I've put a floppy in the disk
drive to make shure that it's not just the display that's broken(I
should hear the drive working in that case, right?).. I've also
checked all the fuses I can find, and they all seem fine.
Anyone who's had the same problem or could help me with some advice?

This is exactly what I had. The machine, also an S-1100, worked fine when it
was picked up at the seller.
At home after power up, it worked too, - loaded higher OS from disc, showed
incoming midi data, loaded programs and samples, - but no sound.
We did all tests w/ the result of all cards (FX / SCSI / CD/DAT and all
converters ) fine ...
PSU also good.

In such a case, a service manual is needed to do measurements on the digital
mainboard of the S-1100 but I cant find it nowhere in the web.
Ive shipped the machine to an authorized service and got the comment, -
this is no standard fault.
The suspicion: Its one of the big chips being soldered on the mainboard, -
but which ?
And if one of these chips is damaged, - where to find a replacement and
whos able to remove this beast without damaging the rest of the board, -
and solder the replacement on the board by hand. There are so many legs
making this impossible.
The only solution is a complete new mainboard which is not available anymore
AFAIK, and would be too expensive - or to look for another cheap S-1100 w/ a
functional digiboard for exchange.
Might be the cheapest way.

For me, - itz seems you have the same prob...
