loose Cursor wheel/knob

loose Cursor wheel/knob

2011-02-15 by Mike Yates

Evening, only after about a couple years using my 1100, the cursor knob is really wobbly, like the more I have used it the looser it gets. how can I fix this or is it damaged forever?
Mike

Hi Mike
Is it loose on the shaft or is the whole shaft wobbly?
My S1000 has a split shaft which can be 'opened' out slightly with a flat bladed screwdriver to improve the grip of the control knob onto the shaft. If the whole shaft is loose then the encoder may need replacing ( an Alps part I think).
regards Carl

Hi,
I've come across the exact same problem on a X7000, a S01 and a S1000,
luckily it is an incredibly easy fix.

*Gently* pull of the knob - at the bottom of the shaft you'll see a 6 sided nut.
Just tighten it with a pair of needle nose pliers (you can take the whole thing to bits and use a spanner etc. to tighten - using needle nose pliers just means you can get at it easier)

Good Luck

Brian

Thanks carl and blewis, you had me worried there if I had to replace the encoder, lucky it was just that nut behind the wheel. used some tweezer things to tighten. thanks guys!
