Apple CD 300 CD-ROM Problems

So I have an Apple CD 300 CD-ROM that stopped working recently. It's turning on but when I insert a CD it accepts it and then 5 seconds later it spits it back out. It's the CD caddy type player. I tried it again disconnected from the sampler (S1100) and same thing. It has worked in the past but it has not been used for some months now. Any thoughts what the problem could be?
