Hello everyone. I am a new member to this group. I have had my S1000 for
a few years but I have not really used it too muh in music making but I
want to change that. My unit does not have any memory expansion as far
as I know. The backlight for the LCD screen is dead,as most are from
what I've read, but I can still navigate the user interface. There used
to be a video on youtube showing someone replacing the backlight on an
s1000 not using the original part but a very cheap replacement that
didnt match perfectly in size but did the job well.

How does one go about expanding the memory of the s1000? Also I would
like to see some videps of people menu diving and sampling, processing
sounds using this unit. I also would like to know if ther eis a resource
for samples? I have a copy opf the mnauak in .pdf format that I snagged
online when I first purchased the unit a few years ago and I also have
an OS update floating around somewhere on a HDDD but I could never get
the unit to read a disk.

I would also like to hear some original music where the s1000 was used.
Maybe some youtube vids or some soundcloud links?

I know the user vinyljunkie on youtube has one of these units and is
pretty active. I havent had the time to see if he is a memeber of this
group or not. But maybe he is.

Well I am glad that I found this group and hope to gain some knowledge
so that I can breath some life back into this potentially wonderful
piece of gear.

Cheers.

I have one here sitting on my desk... I am interested how you are using yours in a live rig... Is it for techno and how are you sequencing it and what other gear are you using in tandem with it..

Thanks..

I have an Akai S1000HD along with just about every other Akai sampler. I love having the hard drive version being that it's so easy to load sounds. I heard there is an ADAT card for the S1000 series, is that true?

I only know AKAI IB-104 which is AES/EBU standard,- electrical coax (1/4" phones jack) or optical (TOSlink).

also @ Terence TcKenna, if you look at the older video of youtube user Michal Patulski he has some very nice examples of what can be done with an S1000, although the are more finished pieces, than tutorials, but all very good nonetheless

Concerning the backlight:

I replaced the backlight on my S1100 with this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/REPLACEMENT-BACKLIGHT-for-AKAI-S1000-S2800-S3000XL-SAMPLER-no-soldering-required-/221365227200?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Pro_Audio_Samplers_Accessories_CV&hash=item338a654ec0

There is already a current wire attached to the board. I shove it between the "glass" and the old backlight (I did not reove the one). disconnect the old current wire and connect the new one. that's it.

Concerning the memory.

The real challenge is finding the memory boards for a fair price.

Beside that there are jumpers on the main board to look after

Here and video with some advanced sampling options It does not cover basic operations, just the advanced features

Hope this helps
