S1100 SCSI problem

S1100 SCSI problem

2014-11-26 by cr@...

I've just picked myself up an S1100, having not used one since 1993. It arrived today and came fitted with the full 32MB of memory which is a real bonus as I did not know that when I agreed the purchase.

Downsides: the backlight is poor (replacement ordered) and it will not recognise SCSI drives. Now I'd read that this is usually down to the N25 fuse so I bought one in readiness. However, having opened up the case, I have been totally unable to locate it. The article at http://akaiscsifaq.digidude.net/ suggested it should be on the SCSI board but it's not there and although I've tried looking elsewhere, I still can't find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

Cheers,

Craig

A follow up on my earlier message.

I compared the SCSI boards in this S1100 and my S3000XL and can clearly see the fuse in the latter so I guess the S1100 doesn't have one, despite what the blog suggests! No matter, I took the SCSI board out and reseated it which luckily solved the problem.

As well as fully expanded memory, this S1100 also came with a digital in/out option and OS 4.3 onboard so I think I've done pretty well with this buy. All I need to do is fit a new backlight (already ordered) and it'll be tip top.

Cheers,

Craig

Congrats! That was my experience as well!
