Memory lost on S1100

Memory lost on S1100

2016-02-25 by frankysven@...

I recently bought a S1100. It showed 16megawords on startup. I opened it and found that it actually has 4 of the 8MB boards from Mutech. Somehow only two of the boards showed up at start. I expected it was caused by oxidation, so I removed all the memory boards, checked that the dip settings where OK and reseated the RAM cards.

Now only one card works, the Akais show 4 Megawords at startup. I tried rearranging the boards, reseating them, etc. Without luck.

Any idea what can be wrong?

Thanks,

Franky

16 megawords = 32 Megabyte ... thats how it works .. x 2 the Mwords = megabytes

if you put back to how they were seated = 16mwords you will be back in business!

I'd clean the contacts with some isopropyl alcohol and also check for
cold solder joints on the memory sockets.
You'd have to remove the mainboard though and this can be tricky.
Also physically examine that all the pin legs of the ICs on the RAM
boards are solidly attached to the PCB.
There is the possibility of dead ram boards but that's rare compared to
cold joints,dirty contacts etc

Sorry, it said 8 megawords when I bought it, not 16 Megawords. It seems then two of the 8 MB boards did not work. Now three of them are not working.

I tried rearranging them in various combinations to at least get back to two working, but I do not manage.

Anyone else had problems with non-working memory boards?

Frank
