Akai s1000 PB question

Akai s1000 PB question

2005-05-30 by alsound2

Hi everybody!
I'm new here, my name is Stefano and I'm a musician from Venice ITALY

I'm gonna purchase an akai s1000 sampler for a live project; I'd like
to assign different zones of my keyboard to various sounds and simply
reproduce them. For this purpose I thought to go for the PB version
(only playback). In this way I could create my samples on pc and then
transfer them to to the s1000 via floppy. Actually I'm doing the same
thing using soft sampler KONTAKT on pC but I'm looking for a more
faithful solution. So, I'd like to know: does
the
PB have some basic editing features just like looping samples? I
think
it would be necessary in my case.
Hope to hear from you.
Thank you very much

Stefano

Bye ;)

Stefano,

If you have the chance, go for a S1100. The S1000PB is maybe not the
best option when it comes to editing. This sampler has no data wheel -
just buttons for changing data. I think that the PB series was made
for people who have a S1000 at home and who use the PB on stage.

Regards,

Frank

Thanks Frank and David,

Your suggestions are very useful for me.
I think I'll go for a S1100 (what about s3000 xl? or s2800? just for
ask;).

P.S. David, thank you for your words for Venice...yeah, it's full of
history and sometimes we (who was born here like me) forget it..It's
everything so "normal" for us..

Talk to you later
Thanks :)

STEFANO.
THE 3000 SERIES WERE THE FIRST SAMPLERS AKAI MADE WITH
RESONANT FILTERS. THIS I FEEL GIVES THE S3000XL A
FATTER SOUND. THE ONE HUGE PLUS IS THAT THE 3000
SERIES IS 32 VOICE POLYPHONY. THE 1100 IS 16 VOICE
POLYPHONY.
THE 3000XL HAS A NICE FEATURE CALLED MULTI MODE. THIS
WOULD BE USEFUL FOR LIVE PLAYING. I THINK IF YOU ARE
PLAYING ON MORE THAN ONE MIDI CHANNEL YOU WOULD BE
BETTER OFF WITH THE S3000XL.THE 1100 HAS A WONDERFUL
CHARACTER FOR ORCHESTRAL SAMPLES. IT HAS A VERY
NATURAL
SOUND.NOT AS FAT AS THE 3000, BUT YOU DONT WANT THAT
WITH MOST AUTHENTIC ORCHESTRAL MUSIC.LISTEN TO THE
MIROSLAV VITOUS SAMPLES OR THE PETER SIEDLACZEKS THRU
THE 1100.PLAYED CORRECTLY YOU WILL FOOL ANYONE.LET ME
KNOW WHAT YOU BUY. TAKE CARE.

Re: DOUBLE THE POLYPHONY !!!!

Thank you!
Now I'm undecided between two solutions here:
1) A s3000xl / used 165 EUR (nice price!the cons are that it has dim
light on the display...is it a very bad signal??)
2) A used s1100+internal hd+cd rom scsi 220 EUR (I don't know how's
the display anyway...)

If the display is a minor problem, I'd go for the s3000xl...
what do you say? is the light easily "changeable"?

I'm looking on ebay too...but it's not easy to find a good
auction...you always miss a thing..

Thanks again ;)

FOR THE REASONS YOU HAD SAID IN PAST LETTERS I WOULD
GO FOR THE S3000XL. THE DISPLAYS ARE ALWAYS READABLE.
I HAVE AN S3000 THAT IS VERY WEAK, BUT I DEAL WITH IT.

IT IS RARE TO FIND THESE OLDER AKAI'S WITH A BRIGHT
DISPLAY.MY 1100 IS WEAK BUT NO WHERE NEAR MY 3000.
YOU RUN STEREO SAMPLES THRU AN 1100 AND BEFORE YOU
KNOW IT YOU HAVE RUN OUT OF VOICES.WHEN I RECORD I USE
A KURZWEIL 2500 AN EMU E5000 AN AKAI S1100 WITH AN
AKAI 1100EXPANDER A ROLAND 1080 WITH THE ORCHESTRAL
BOARD AND AN AKAI S3000.THE ROLAND ORCHESTRAL BOARD
HAS THE BEST HARPSICHORDS IN THE WORLD.THIS WAY I ONLY
RUN MY SOLO VIOLIN THRU MY S1100.NEVER HAVE TO WORRY
ABOUT POLYPHONY.STAY AWAY FROM THE AKAI S2000!!!

TAKE CARE STEFANO

P.S. MY REAL NAME IS DAVID CASTAGNA (CHESTNUT)

Hello guys,
I know the problem with the displays myself.
But there are 2 sites I know, where you can buy the critical parts
for samplerdisplays (especially akai):

www.backlights.co.uk (not working at the moment)
             www.midi-rakete.de (site is german&english too!)

At midi-rakete you can buy the EL-foil.

I hope this can help you guys!

see ya

Hello David
I have just joined the group, and have been catching up on some of these messages. I was
curious why you said at one point in this dialogue 'Stay away from the S2000'.
Why do you say that?

Robert
