Akai S1000 / S1100 samplers

Hi all,

I'm a new member, just bought an S1000.  It came with no manuals or
accessories so a huge thanks to formals777 for providing the pdf
manual in the files section.  Akai's archive site seems to have
evaporated...

When my unit arrived, the memory cards had come loose (the bracket
that holds them in at the top is missing).  I've replaced them in the
order they appeared to go in, although one had completely fallen out
of the bay so I may have the order wrong.  The first card has a
capacitor which is supposed to connect to the chassis, does anyone
know what its purpose is (presumably to discharch excess static)?  The
machine runs fine without it connected but if that's a bad idea I'd
like to know.

None of the four cards mention specific memory size.  I've narrowed
one down; it came in 2 and 8mb sizes according to a website listing
it.  Another is listed on a german site as being 8mb, (with a question
mark next to it), but as far as I know my S1000 wasn't modified to use
cards larger than 2mb.  The other two simply say "S1000-Mem" and there
are no further identifying numbers or marks that seem relevant. 
Therefore I'm assuming they're 2mb each.  The software reports only
4mb total.  Bit of a mystery there.  Any advice?  Booting the machine
with each card in slot #0 to determine size worth a try?

Hi again,

Regarding my previous post about memory cards; further reading has
enlightened me about the "MWord" value (its being half the installed
amount of RAM in MB).  So everything's hunky dory in that respect. 
I'm still foggy about the capacitor issue though.
