Loose Wire in S1100

Loose Wire in S1100

2008-04-28 by rctrail3rocks

Hi All,

I've just acquired an S1100, and it seems I need to replace the floppy
('bad directory area' after formatting attempts).

When I opened it up to see what I could find, I noticed that a pair of
wires connected to connector "P214" on the left side of the unit were
dangling loose on the inside. I've no idea if they contacted the
circuit board and damaged it or not. I can send pics if anyone's
interested. (It looks like the orange/brown pair in the photo in the
Photos section
<http://launch.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/akaiS1000S1100Samplers/photos/v
iew/2f99?b=1>.)

So, if anyone can tell me where the other end of this connector should
be, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Hello.

I just aquired a S1100.

I have this problem too. Does anyone know what to do about this "disk unusable - bad directory area" (both DD and HD)

Thanks in advance.

If you're talking about the loose wire on P214: that is the power input of the unit that creates a high voltage curent for the display electro luminicense foil.

The other part of the email was that his floppy drive that had to be replaced. You will find lots of emails about that issue if you search through the messages. You can buy these drives from specialised companies like vintageplanet.nl but be prepared to pay around 70 euro/dollar. We have one commercial member here, route66studios (see links section) which is based in the states and also offers floppy drives for older samplers.

Rgds,

Frank

Hiya,

When I acquired my S1000 a couple of years ago, the floppy drive kept giving me errors as well - bad formats and the like. I was all set to try and find a new one, when the issue cleared up. My guess is that it got out alignment during shipping, and it needed to be used a few times in order to set it right.

I'm not saying this is what's happening with your units, but it is a possibility.

Cheers,
-Josh

This means you need to replace the floppy drive. I mentioned it in my original post only to explain why I had opened up the unit to find the loose wire.

There's lots of information already on the net about replacing the floppy.
