Adding 8mb boards to S1000

Adding 8mb boards to S1000

2008-06-17 by hifistereo2001

I just bought one with 9megawords installed, but im not sure if the
unit is able to read 8mb boards that I just bought. What are ways that
I would know that it could address them, and also how would I make the
modification to make them able to read?

9 megawords installed means there are 18meg of RAM = 2 8meg cards plus 1 2meg card.
So, your S-1000 is able to work w/ 8meg cards already,- just has the jumpers resoldered.

Probably you see, the 2 meg card is in the 1st slot and the 2 8meg cards are in the 2 following slots.
If the display reads 9 meg words at power up, all is fine and you can add another 8meg board to the last slot.

If you plan to add another 2 meg board instead of a 8meg one, so take care to put the 2nd 2meg board into the 2nd slot und jump w/ the 2 8meg boards to the 3dr and 4th slot.
This will work.

I myself, I recognized, if 2meg boards are inserted into the 1st slot, this card is connected to the chassis w/ a resistor or condenser ( don´t know exactly) ...

Definitely, my S-1000 and my S-1100 are running fine w/ 4 8meg boards ( 32MB) without this connection.

So, maybe, anyone possibly can comment on this connection and the part ( resistor/condensor) in more detail here,- I´m intersted in this secret too.

I just installed 20Mb (10MW) in my S1100ex.

For me, it didn't recognize all the memory
until it was installed 2-8-8-2.

In other words 8-8-2-2 suggested below won't
work. That comes up as 4Mb (2MW) (even with
the jumpers set properly). Also 2-2-8-8 is
only seen as 18Mb (9MW).

It's tricky.

sorry for that,- I only have 2-8-8-8 / 8-8-8-8 and 2-2-2-2 as also 2-2-2 combinations in my Akai samplers actually.
Never had 2 2meg boards and 2 8meg boards inside, - just only 1 2meg and 2 8meg, which worked in 2-8-8 combination.
Silly it must be 2-8-8-2, isn´t it ?

But I also never suggested 8-8-2-2,- it was the other way around, but seems wrong too.
2 megs have to be in the 1st slot ever.
