S1000 and condenser mics

S1000 and condenser mics

2008-08-13 by Josh

Hi all,

I just bought a condenser mic (CAD GXL2200), for that little boost in
quality over the cheap dynamics I've been using up until now. It works
fine with my mixer + phantom power, but the signal is far too weak if
I plug it directly into the S1000's (left) XLR jack. The manual is
very vague in regard to these mic jacks. Are they strictly for dynamic
XLR mics that don't require phantom power? I'm guessing I'll need to
run the mic through my mixer's pre-amp first and into the line-in on
the Akai, correct?

Cheers,
-Josh

You're correct, there is no phantom power on the Mic premamps in the S1000 so you'll need to use your mixer. Chances are you mixer's preamps are better than the mic pre's on the S1000 so you might as well use it for your dynamic mics too.

Hi Josh

Correct. All condenser mics have to have phantom power. So going through the
mixer should solve your problem.
