the band im in are looking to sell an akai s1000 and have a potential buyr,
though she needs to know if it is compatable with zip disks

unfourtunalty we are somewhat technological cavemen and dont have a

Certainly!
External scsi 100Mb zip id5 if you dont have an internal HD on that id. Connect 25dsub to
50pin Amphenol cable, terminator on. Power up zip, then S1000, go and look for the drive
under the disk menu. It's only seen once it's formatted.
If your S1000 has 32Mb of RAM, It works well if you format the zip as three partitions of
32Mb, and learn how to look at them from your front panel.
Always label them, at least with a number and a format. My labels read S3000_01 etc, and
then a name for each partition, either project or Instrument classification if a Library Disk.
Zips work in almost everything and there can be issues if you put the wrong disk in the
mac for instance.

I'm sure there are detailed discussions of this in the archive, we've all had to learn it at
some time.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
